Sunday Musical Number

A few Sundays ago we sang a musical number in church. It was a really nice arrangement of Joseph Smith's First Prayer. Bishop Chappell played the piano for us. Bishop and Sister Chappell were very nice to let us come over and practice at their house and then they took us out to dinner.

After a big dinner and I do mean big we all shared several plates of food, we had some really cute small ice cream cones.

Not to mention some delicious cheescake and some chocolate cake.
Here is our group at dinner, minus Aubrey who was with her fiance. The Chappells were very nice to us. From left to right we have Heather, Alona, Kim, Lesley,Me, Susannah, Shelley, Sister Chappell, and Bishop Chappell. We took a little video clip of us practice right before church. I love our coordinated outfits.

Car Show

Well I thought I was just going to the church to clean up and then coming home to rest on a Saturday. It ended up a very busy but fun day. My friend Adam talked Lala and I into going to a bike swap downtown. While we were driving down there we past a boat car. Thought that was kind of weird. After the bike swap we decided we wanted something to eat, but it was to early for lunch so we drove around downtown and ended up at the Houston Garden Park. Here are a few pictures.

We then went and tried greek food for the first time at Adam's favorite restaurant. On the way home we saw a bunch of people walking around carring lawn chairs so we stopped and asked where they were going. Turns out it was the Car Art parade. So we took another detour before going home and stopped to watch the parade. Here a few of my favorites.

Can you tell how impressed he is with the turd sandwhich car? He really wants to try it.

This car was one of my favorites! With two people stearing the car at the same time it looked like it was just gliding sideways across the street. It was pretty cool.

Adam and Lala watching the parade. He's not quite as hungry after trying the sandwhich.

Very creative Box Car. There were several Elementary schools that had joined in the decorating.
Who knew there was so much to do around Houston!

Service Project

On March 3rd the Houston Metro Area Young Single Adult group from our church partnered up with the Spring Creek Parks to help plant trees. I'm not sure how many trees we planted, but it was a good amount. It was nice to be planting trees, since most of them are getting cut down around the Houston area now. The weather was perfect for planting.

Heather and Shelley Burnham, Natalie Jones, caring the trees to the perfect spot we discovered.

The buckets are empty and the trees are gone. From left to right: Me, Natalie,Kim, Heather, Shelley and Susannah

A few weeks earlier...ok maybe a month earlier I had either jammed my two fingers on my left hand really good, or I broke them. We're not sure which since I don't believe in doctors. So I couldn't do a whole lot of digging, but it was still fun to help out.

Lance is Home

Ok so he really came home at the beginning of March, but I still want to document. Lance served for two years in the Argentina Buenos Aires West Mission. We are glad he is back. I took the day off from work to be there at the airport. He was extremely tired. Who wouldn't after being up for 24 hours?
What a great missionary!

It was also a great opportunity to go with him as he reported on his mission. Elder Call had been up now for almost 48 hours straight. It would be hard enough to speak clearly after that, but trying to talk in English again made it even more difficult. However he did a marvelous job and I loved hearing him bear his testimony in Spanish. He's a great example.

Lance emailed us several times before he came home and told us were were not allowed to surprise him at the airport. It took us awhile to figure out why he was so worried about this. One day mom was putting together a home video. On it was Jason coming home from his mission. We had all forgotten that I had flown home from Washington DC, but did not tell Jason I was coming. So we kept our promise and didn't surprise him at the airport. The Thursday after he came home Jason was able to stop off in Houston for the night while coming back from a business trip. I went to the airport to pick Jason up. Lance got a really big surprise when he walked into the kitchen and Jason snuck up behind him.

Biking Around Houston

These post are so in random order. Sorry! I'm trying to catch up on all the fun things that have taken place. So they get posted in whatever order that shows up in my picture file. I never wanted to move back to Houston after I graduated high school. I would have died if someone would have told me then that I would end up here 8 years later. The second time around is much better then the first

A few friends and I took a bike ride all around Houston. It was the perfect day, minus the bike seat that was a little loose.

Katherine is a friend from A&M. Its been great to be in the same ward again. Here we are at the reflecting pool near the Houston Zoo. Taking a little snack break. Katherine's siste Samara came with us.
Julie is the fabulous photographer. This is a a partial skyline of downtown

If you were a friend in high school you might not believed I possed for this picture just outside of Minute Maid Park.

One of the Buildings in Downtown.

Julie jumped off her bike for the perfect catch to win the game. Should have seen her flying through the air.

It really was the perfect day for a ride!

Gymnastics

We have had some really fun YSA activities lately. This last one was at a gymnastics gym. Susannah, Amanda, me and Alona had the best seats in the gym to watch every run down a very long trampoline and then land in the foam pit. There were some really funny lands.

Here's Susannah showing off her skills.

Don't try this at home! There were some negative side effects from this. Actually this is the second time I did this and believe it or not I landed on my feet the first time. At least I have some bounce to me. : )

As a result of the steam roll a few days later while Susannah and I were eating breakfast I spilt a whole bowl of cherrios in my lap and all over the floor. We had left the windows open that night and it was a little chilly in the kitchen. I ran upstairs to put on a jacket. When I went to sit back down at the table the jacket hit the bowl.

Susannah snaped a few photos of my spill for memories. At least I only had to change my pants before running to work. Not to worry while at work that day I spilt a whole cup of water down the front of me as well. Needless to say it was a very entertaining day.

Cake Decorating

Since my mission I've picked up cake decorating as a hobby. Here are a few of my favorites.

Thomas the Tank Engine took my three hours from start to finish. I was exhausted, but it's my favorite one of all
Everybody at work knows that I make them and I'm often asked to make them for celebrations we have at work. The worst part is coming up with the price for each cake.

I've made them for birthdays, weddings, confirmations, and graduations. It's always fun when they are done, but frustrating while making them.

Catching Up

So It's been a long while since I posted anything on here so here are a few select highlights from last year and then I'll add all the highlights from this year.
For one of our ward activities we rented sumo suits.
It was tons of fun. I don't know which was more fun actually
being the one in the suit or watching others.

I teach special education at an elementary school here in Humble.

It's illegal for me to post pictures of my students and all the fun activities we

do, but there is nothing about posting pictures of the teachers.

In April we took all our special education classes to Old McDonald's farm.

The kids loved and it was nice for us to be out of the classroom for a day.
